Tali Hatuka (B. Arch., M.Sc., Ph.D.) is an architect, urban planner and full professor at Tel Aviv University (TAU). Hatuka graduated summa cum laude from the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in 1995; she received an M.Sc. in Urban Design from Edinburgh College of Art, Heriot-Watt University, U.K. in 1999; and a doctorate from the Technion in 2005. In 2004, as a Fulbright Scholar and a Marie Curie Scholar, she was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT. Hatuka has received many awards, including the 2012 Rechter Prize for Young Israeli Architects from the Ministry of Culture and Sport. Hatuka was chosen in 2020 to be one of The Marker’s ‘100 most influential people in Israel’ for her academic and practical work in urban planning.

Hatuka is the Head and founder of the Leventer Urban Design Laboratory, an international center for investigating the connections between the built environment and social dynamics. Thematically, Hatuka research work concentrates primarily on three key themes: (a) the urban realm and society (i.e., public space, technology and dissent), (b) city design and development (i.e., housing and industrial development), (c) open-ended urban experiments. As a whole, the work targets three key audiences: academics, via dissemination, mainly in academic books and peer-reviewed journals; policy makers, by writing and disseminating policy documents, applicative research and strategic planning; and the public at large, mainly through the e-journal Urbanolgia, a public, open access journal on urbanism targeting readers from the public sector and the public at large, where she serves as the editor-in-chief. Hatuka has published extensively, and her works include 14 books/edited volumes and more than 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals/edited volumes. She has also written policy documents and strategic plans, and her research was exhibited at MIT Museum Galleries in 2008 and 201
